Press Release

Paul Kasmin Gallery is pleased to participate in Art Basel Hong Kong, May 15–18, 2014, Stand 3D34, with a selection of artworks by Constantin Brancusi, Max Ernst, Walton Ford, Robert Indiana, David LaChapelle, Les Lalanne, Nyoman Masriadi, James Nares, Iván Navarro, Elliot Puckette, Makoto Saito, Andy Warhol and Tai Xiangzhou.

The Gallery will exhibit six works by master of modernism Constantin Brancusi, showcasing his immense contribution to modern art through sculpture, photography, and painting.  Amongst our selection will be Brancusi’s polished bronze Mademoiselle Pogany II and his photograph of the marble version of the same sculpture. Mademoiselle Pogany II embodies both the feminine spirit and the ovoid, which he considered to be “the mother of all form.” The Gallery is also delighted to present a rare gouache on paper by Brancusi, Nude – Study for a Fresco, with three additional photographs by the artist.

The Gallery’s exhibition of iconic sculpture continues with a presentation of Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne’s menagerie of whimsical animals, alongside Robert Indiana’s seminal LOVE sculpture. From Claude Lalanne, Nouveau Lapin de Victoire, which was previously included in Les Lalanne’s installation at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens. From the same outdoor exhibition, François-Xavier Lalanne’s Mouflon de Ram Island will be on view with several Moutons de Pierre. A selection of masterful sculptures from Les Lalanne was recently on view in Alexander the Great: The Iolas Gallery 1955-1987 at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, highlighting the sculptor pair’s presence in the international art world since the 1960’s.

Debuting at Art Basel Hong Kong, the Gallery will present a new painting by Nyoman Masriadi and a never-before-exhibited work by Tai Xiangzhou, showcasing Tai’s intricate ink drawings for the second year in a row. From Iván Navarro, a new socio-politically charged neon work that repeats infinitely, following his recent public installation This Land is Your Land in New York’s Madison Square Park.
