Known by his signature name CPLY, (pronounced 'see-ply'), was a painter, writer, gallerist, art patron, publisher, and art entrepreneur. Copley blazed a singular path through numerous territories of post-war art, along the way charting a vital link between the European Surrealist and the American Pop Art movements.

His work appears in major public and private collections worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Numerous international exhibitions of CPLY'S work include a major retrospective at the Kunsthalle Bern, in Switzerland which traveled to Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and the Stedelijk Van Abbesmuseum, Amsterdam in 1980-81. Copley has been exhibited in several important group exhibitions, including the prestigious Documenta 5 and Documenta 7. Most recently, Copley was the subject of a comprehensive traveling retrospective organized by The Menil Collection and Fondazione Prada and is on view through February 12, 2017.
