ERIK PARKER
Colorful Resistance

Remember that kid with the goofy grin in junior high who couldn’t stop doodling, in lunch, gym or Modern European History? Who scrawled the coolest squiggles on his notebooks and desk? Well, Erik Parker was that kid. And his hyper-detailed work here, with roots in alternative comics, punk, hip-hop and graffiti, writhes with bursts of lines, colors and words. They just might be what the brain looks like at work. Mr. Parker, who journeyed from high school dropout to master of fine arts, says here, “It was either art or a life of vandalism and I love pink.”
